December Savings Made Simple!

As the colder months approach, many of us are looking for ways to keep our bills down. While it can be a challenge, there are several simple steps you can take to save energy and reduce costs. Here are five easy tips to help you lower your bills this winter:

  1. Smart Washing

Switching your wash cycle temperature from 40°C to 30°C can save you around £12 a year. It might not seem like much, but it adds up. Doing fewer, larger loads of laundry can also reduce your electricity consumption, so aim to wash more clothes at once.

  1. Turn It Off

Many of us are guilty of leaving chargers plugged in and the TV on standby. These small habits could be adding up to an extra £45 a year on your energy bills. Unplug your devices when not in use and turn off appliances at the mains to prevent unnecessary power consumption.

  1. Close the Curtains

Open curtains can let warmth escape, making your heating work harder. Closing your curtains traps the warm air inside and helps prevent draughts, potentially saving you around £20 a year. Make sure to do this in the evening to keep the heat where you want it.

  1. Radiator Rules

It’s more efficient to keep radiators on low rather than turning them off entirely. When radiators are off, your boiler has to work harder to reheat the room later. Bleeding your radiators twice a year will also keep them running smoothly by removing air pockets, and ensuring they aren’t covered by curtains or furniture will help them heat your space more effectively. Following these tips could save you up to £40 a year.

  1. Boiler Services

Servicing your boiler annually not only ensures it’s running efficiently but also helps catch any potential issues early, preventing expensive repairs or replacements down the line. Always use a Gas Safe Registered engineer to carry out the service, and make sure they check for leaks and other potential problems.

We’re all feeling the pinch at the moment, so it’s worthwhile taking advantage of any small savings we can. These are a few things the Edwards and Gray team have found useful to reduce our bills. Let us know if you have anything works well for you!
