Why Live in Solihull?

Solihull is renowned for being one of the most desirable places to live, not just within Birmingham and the West Midlands but UK wide.

Solihull topped the list on uSwitch’s quality of life index in 2013 with Shirley being named as the most competitive postcode for UK homebuyers in April 2022. Of course, living and working in Solihull I am probably a little biased however I thought I would break down some of the things that Solihull offers, making it such a great place to live.

Variety Of Houses

Solihull is a borough in it’s own right and covers a variety of postcodes from B36 & B37 in the North, to B90-95 in Central and South Solihull. The great thing about this is that it gives buyers an opportunity to have a Solihull postcode within a variety of budgets.

The postcodes of B91-95 are considered more desirable with some property even demanding up to £4 million! The good news is that there is everything in between to suit your budget too.

Depending on size and condition you can pick up a 4 bedroom detached home in Monkspath, Hillfield, Knowle or Dorridge for around £550,000 – £600,000. Traditional 3 bedroom semi-detached homes in Shirley are available for from around £260,000 up to around £400,000. Whilst in the North Solihull postcodes, a budget of £200,000 could easily secure you a 3 bedroom terraced.

If you’re looking for the convenience of an apartment, in Central & South Solihull a budget of £200,000 – £250,000 would be more than adequate, or if that’s a little out of range, areas such as Chelmsley Wood can offer a simple 2 bedroom apartment for as little as £120,000.

Schools & Colleges

Being an area with a very high percentage of the population being families with children, education is extremely important. There are a variety of public and private schools available in the Borough and Solihull has a great reputation for it’s quality of education and OFSTED ratings. Currently out of the 92 schools and colleges registered on GOV.UK it boasts 22 with an outstanding rating, 58 rated as good, just 12 rated as requires improvement and 0 rated as inadequate.

Transport Links

If you’re working in/travelling to Solihull, then traffic permitting you can get from anywhere in the Borough to Solihull Town Centre within approximately 20 minutes via car. There are also many bus routes all over Solihull linking with the town centre.

For commuters it is an ideal location. The A34, A41 and A45 all give direct access to the Birmingham Ring Road making driving into the City Centre as hassel free as possible. For those needing motorway access, junctions 4, 5 and 6 with the M42 are just a short drive away, which also give easy access to the M6 (and toll) and M40.

There are also many train stations with Shirley, Solihull, Olton, Marston Green, Birmingham International, Hampton-In-Arden, Dorridge, Widney Manor, Earslwood & Whitlocks End all giving direct links to Birmingham Moor Street, Snow Hill or New Street within 25 minutes. Solihull, Marston Green & Birmingham International also offer direct trains in to London.

Amenities

With nearly all areas of Solihull being considered affluent suburbs of Birmingham, it would be difficult to find anywhere that doesn’t have an array of local shops, supermarkets, retail outlets and other businesses, so you’re likely to be well covered.

However, Solihull is home to Touchwood Shopping Centre where you can find all your favourite high street brands, supermarkets, entertainment and small independent businesses.

Resorts World has a variety of outlets store, as well as a greater choice of entertainment including the cinema, escape rooms, bowling and an arcade.

If you fancy a walk or a day out with the family, you certainly are not stuck for choice on places to go outdoors, with Solihull being home to no fewer than 117 green spaces, parks and play areas.

So with places to live to suit anyone’s criteria or budget, ease of getting around, great education, plenty to see and do, fantastic quality of life and low crime rate, you can see why Solihull has been high in demand for homebuyers across the UK for decades.
